An Invitation to Discipleship: Confirmation Inquirers Meeting (9 am)
February 8 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 pm
Christian Initiation: Confirmation, Reception, Reaffirmation, and Baptism
The Rt. Rev. Susan Ellyn Goff, Suffragan Bishop and Ecclesiastical Authority of our Diocese, will visit our parish this year on our observance of Saint Alban’s Day – June 28, 2020. The Bishop will preach and preside at Holy Eucharist that day, and will be with us for our annual Parish Picnic on the lawn afterward. In addition, Bishop Susan will confer rites of Christian Initiation for all who wish to receive them.
The catechism in the Book of Common Prayer states that “Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God” (p. 858). “Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop” (p. 860). Those baptized and confirmed in another denomination (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, etc.) are Received into the Anglican Communion. In other cases, some choose to Reaffirm their baptismal vows.
Preparatory courses for both youth and adults for Christian Initiation will begin the first week of March.
